Privacy Policy

Last updated:

LastPlace ("the app") is developed by Athul Sethumadhavan ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use LastPlace. The short version: LastPlace doesn't run ads or analytics and doesn't sell or share your data with anyone. Your rooms, items, photos, notes, and checklists are stored locally on your device.

Information we do not collect

We don't receive, store, or have access to any of the rooms, items, photos, notes, or checklists you create in LastPlace. We don't use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

How your data is stored

Everything you add to LastPlace — rooms, items, photos, locations, notes, and checklists — is stored locally on your device only. There's currently no cloud backup or cross-device sync: if you delete the app or lose your device, that data is gone unless you've backed up the device itself another way. We're working on optional account-based sync for a future version; this policy will be updated before that ships.

On-device photo recognition

When you scan a room, LastPlace uses Apple's Vision framework to help identify objects in the photos you take. This recognition happens entirely on your device — the photos and the detection results never leave your phone to be processed anywhere else.

Camera access

LastPlace asks for camera access only to let you photograph items while scanning a room. The camera is never active in the background, and photos you capture are stored the same way as the rest of your data (locally, on-device).

Face ID / Touch ID

If you turn on the optional app lock in Settings, LastPlace uses Face ID or Touch ID (via Apple's LocalAuthentication framework) to confirm it's you before showing your rooms and items again after the app has been in the background. This check happens entirely on-device through Apple's system frameworks — we never receive your biometric data, and neither does LastPlace itself; the app only receives a yes/no answer from iOS.

Siri and Shortcuts

If you use Siri to find an item or add something to a checklist, that request is handled by Apple's Siri and App Intents frameworks and passed directly to LastPlace on your device. We don't receive a copy of your voice requests.

Data retention and deletion

Your data stays in LastPlace for as long as you keep the app installed. You can permanently delete everything LastPlace has stored — every room, item, checklist, and photo — at any time from Settings → Data Management → Delete All Data. Because we never held a copy of your data in the first place, there's nothing for us to separately delete on our end.

Children's privacy

LastPlace is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Because the app doesn't collect or transmit data to us at all, this is consistent regardless of who uses the app.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this same address.
